A Year of Moving Gently: Reflections on Solo Travel and Journeys in 2025

I didn’t begin 2025 with a clear map—only a quiet intention to move more gently. As the year unfolded, the road offered me unexpected gifts: slow mornings, mixed-emotion flights, warm smiles from strangers, familiar comfort food, and moments that asked nothing from me except presence. In those pauses, I found clarity. I learned that sometimes the best direction is simply forward—one step at a time.

This year wasn’t about rushing toward milestones. It was about trusting the process, embracing uncertainty, and allowing life to unfold at its own pace.

On the Road: Solo Journeys ✈️

Travel remained my constant companion in 2025—not as an escape, but as alignment.

I gifted myself a solo journey that crossed familiar borders in unfamiliar ways. From landing in Hong Kong and finally crossing the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge by land to celebrating my birthday with a quiet pilgrimage in Macau, the trip reminded me how vast and deeply healing the world can be when I allow myself to move slowly and intentionally.

Traveling alone once again gave me space—to listen, to observe, and to rediscover parts of myself I had almost forgotten.

MACAU 🇲🇴

Later in the year, I backpacked solo through Hoi An, Vietnam, and Bangkok, Thailand. Hoi An offered me history, lantern-lit evenings, and stillness; Bangkok welcomed me with movement, flavor, and life in full volume.

HOI AN, VIETNAM 🇻🇳

Traveling through these contrasting cities allowed me to experience different aspects of myself and the world around me, reinforcing the idea that growth comes from stepping out of my comfort zone.

BANGKOK, SAMUT SONGKHRAM & RATCHABURI, THAILAND 🇹🇭

I ended the year by returning solo to one of my favorite countries in the world—Taiwan. Exploring Chiayi and Kaohsiung felt like coming home to a promise I once made. Foggy mountain views, railways, harbors, sunsets, a lighthouse, city rhythms, filming locations from a favorite Taiwanese drama, railway bentos, and conversations with locals—all came together in a way that felt deeply personal.

I ticked off long-held bucket list dreams and left with my heart full. Exploring these vibrant cities enriched my perspective and deepened my appreciation for diverse cultures.

The memories I made during this journey will forever hold a special place in my heart, reminding me of the transformative power of travel.

Feeding the Wanderlust Without Leaving 🌏🇵🇭

Not all journeys required a plane ticket.

Throughout the year, I found myself attending travel expos, tourism fairs, book fairs, and cultural festivals. I wandered through art museums, listened to stories from different parts of the world, and learned about destinations I hadn’t even considered before.

Expos, festivals, culture—my kind of playground in 2025. 😄😄🎪

These moments kept my curiosity alive and reminded me that travel begins long before departure—and often starts with imagination.

Even on days when I stayed put, I was still moving—just in quieter ways.

City Days: Finding Joy Where I Was 🍜☕🇵🇭

Between trips, I learned to appreciate the beauty of ordinary days. I spent time alone in the city, indulged in food trips, explored unfamiliar flavors, and allowed myself to enjoy small joys without needing them to become something more.

City tour? More like a food tour. The dishes stole the spotlight, but hey—2025 food trips deserved it! 😄🍜📸

These days grounded me. They taught me that inspiration doesn’t always come from afar—it often shows up exactly where I am.

Homecomings and Stillness 🌅❤️🇵🇭

Returning to my hometown, whether it was a holiday season or a surprise homecoming, offered a different kind of journey. Surrounded by family, familiar streets, and wide open skies, I found myself chasing sunsets I had long missed in city life.

The countryside reminded me of simplicity, faith, and the quiet comfort of slowing down. Sunsets, green rice fields, and a warm bowl of batchoy—nothing screams “home” quite like that.

Carrying It Forward 📝💻

As I quietly close 2025, I carry with me everything this year has taught me—how to move gently, how to trust the road even when it bends, and how to honor my own pace.

I step into the new year with an open heart, willing to embrace whatever comes, and trusting that wherever I go next, I will find my way—one intentional step at a time.
