ABOUT ME

Adventure Seeker 🌍 | Storyteller 📖 | Solo Traveler 🎒 | Railway Enthusiast 🚇

Hey there! I’m CJ Oliva—and this is The Pen Rebel’s Blog.

I’m a solo female traveler from the Philippines who’s been exploring Asia and East Asia one train ride, side street, and sunrise at a time. Since my first solo backpacking trip to Banaue in 2013, I’ve been chasing the kind of travel that doesn’t make it onto highlight reels – the quiet mornings at Fenqihu station, the unexpected detours, the places that stay with you long after you’ve left.

This blog is where I document all of it. Real stories, honest guides, and the moments I never want to forget. Whether you’re planning your own solo adventure in Southeast Asia, curious about East Asia off the beaten path, or just here for the stories—you’re in the right place. 🌍✈️

💼 What I Do

I document my travel adventures—partly as a hobby, partly because I always forget to finish my travel journal once I’m back home. This blog is my way of preserving those moments, sharing stories, and reliving the journey.

✏️ Why The Pen Rebel?

Writing has never been my profession, yet here I am—journaling my adventures, thoughts, and life experiences. I embrace imperfection, breaking away from conventional storytelling to share raw, unfiltered moments from my travels.

“The Pen Rebel” reflects my journey of writing without rules, exploring the world without limits, and documenting life in my own way. Whether it’s through words, photos, or experiences, this space is where I go beyond the ordinary.

Welcome to my little corner of rebellion. 🚀

📍 Favorite Destinations

Not biased, but while I’ve explored some corners of the world, Taiwan and South Korea hold a special place in my heart—vibrant cities, stunning landscapes, and endless culinary delights!

🗺️ My Journey So Far

My love for solo travel started with my solo backpacking adventure in Banaue, Philippines, in 2013.
